How to Root Nexus 9 – Easiest Way Available

Nexus 9 is the first Android tablet in the market having a 64- bit processor. Nexus 9 being a part of the Nexus series was supposed to have a simple rooting process. However, rooting Nexus 9 is not an easy process thanks to its new Android version. One must know that before starting the rooting process of Nexus 9 requires its bootloader to be unlocked first that means all your stored data and installed apps will be lost. So, if you are willing to root your Nexus 9 device then you must abide by the below mentioned steps carefully.

Pre- requisites

  • Do make sure that your Nexus 9 contains at least 80% battery.
  • Download Patched Boot image, Fastboot and ADB Drivers on your computer system before heading to the rooting process.
  • Also ensure that you have created a backup for the all the important files and other crucial data stored in your device.

Steps for Rooting Nexus 9

  • The first step is to download and extract Fastboot, Patched Boot Image and ADB Drivers files on your desktop.
  • Now, to enable Developer options on your Nexus 9 device, simply go to settings>> About Device>> tap on Build Number seven times. Now again go back to Settings>> Developer Options>> enable “ADB Debugging” and “Enable OEM Unlock” options.
  • The next step is to open the command prompt on your PC and navigate the files you extracted on your desktop.
  • Now connect your device to your computer system and do make sure that you press the “OK” option to enable USB Debugging on your computer system. Then, simply enter the command “adb devices”.
  • If ADB drivers were installed properly to your device then they will be detected by your computer system and you will receive some random alphabets and numbers. If this does not happen then you are required to restart your PC and re-install the drivers once again. Enter the command “adb reboot bootloader”.
  • After you device gets rebooted into Bootloader mode, make use of volume keys to navigate the “Fastboot” mode and then press the Power button to verify your selection.
  • To unclock bootloader of your device you have to enter this command “fastboot oem unlock” in the command prompt window. By pressing the volume up button confirm the command prompt. Now, your Nexus 9 device will be rebooted in sometime. After the completion of the process, you will get back to the Bootloader menu.
  • Copy and paste this command “fastboot boot inject.img” with the help of which you device will reboot back into Bootloader mode. The command will boot a patched boot image on temporary basis that will insert SuperSU into your system partition.
  • The final step is to enter “fastboot flash boot patched.img” for installing a patched kernel on your Nexus 9 with a modified RAM disk. After the completion of installation process, reboot your Nexus 9 back into Lollipop by entering the command “fastboot reboot”.
